application.
Sometimes I wish for falling
Wish for the release
Wish for falling through the air
To give me some relief
Because falling's not the problem
When I'm falling I'm at peace
It's only when I hit the ground
TIM DAWSON

No, no. You got the wrong guy.
This is dead hero territory, man.

Character Personality & History:
So once upon a time in the great garden state of New Jersey, there was a kid. Obviously there are millions of kids in Jersey, but in this fable, we're going to focus on this one kid in particular. For the sake of candor or just a complete lack of imagination, we'll call him Tim. Now, Tim? He was a bright kid. This might have been due to a privileged upbringing that allowed for the best schools and tutors, or it just could have been genetics. See, both of Tim's parents were extremely successful in their chosen fields of business, and their bank accounts were flush even if their family life was squalor. Whatever the causality of his intelligence, Tim was kind of a smart ass when he was growing up. Actually, he still is.

The thing about this boy, Tim, his parents weren't around a whole lot. They were always traveling for business of vacation(vacations that Tim never went on). School was more important than Aruba, you understand. So Tim did the private school thing, aces all the way. He didn't really have to study for those grades, and he didn't have any friends, so all of his free time was mostly spent on the Internet. Tim liked reading about all of the things that they didn't teach him in school. He liked computers too, everything from taking them apart to putting them back together. Knowledge was more than a hobby to this kid, it was an obsession. All those nights left alone, those weekends, those summers... Tim wasn't off joining the peewee football leagues, he was watching the detective mysteries on tv, and he was reading all of the news articles about so many unsolved crimes. His favorite articles were about Shadow.

Shadow was a vigilante and a do-gooder. But beyond that, Shadow was a mystery to be solved. Shadow was the perfect distraction for a teen detective with nothing but money and time on his hands during those school summer breaks. Now, I'm not saying it was easy to discover the Shadow's identity. At the time, Tim thought that he'd never deal with anything more difficult in his life than solving that mystery. But boy was he wrong. Because not only did he solve the mystery, but the hardest times for Tim? Those were yet to come.

It took some convincing, maybe a little innocent blackmail, but upon determining the identity of Shadow, Tim eventually got Wainright to train him, to help him find a place in the dirty, crime-ridden alleys that he'd always been raised to believe he had no place in. The night time became the time that Tim really shined. He'd never felt like he fit in anywhere like he did in the criminal underbelly. It was a real thrill. Maybe most kids would have experimented with drugs or boosted cars to get their adrenaline pumping like that, but what Tim was hooked on was vigilantism.

Like all kids who are too smart for their own good, there was a certain level of cockiness that pervaded Tim's approach to crime fighting. If you'd of asked him? He was unstoppable, he was untouchable, but what he really was, was prideful. Why wouldn't he be? He was just a kid and he'd single-handedly unmasked the Shadow. This was a source of pride for Tim, a catalyst of self-worth that carried him through the excruciating years of his own crime fighting, even when his esteem was plummeting to the dirt from fifty stories up. But that kind of depression? It took years to develop properly. It was like a video game cheat code, the buttons had to be mashed just right, in just the right order. Only instead of getting infinite lives or a goddamn blue Yoshi, this cheat code destroyed everything and everyone Tim had ever loved.

Back then, in the beginning, Tim wasn't ever worried about his own safety. He was cocky, remember? The problem was that he forgot to think about the safety of those closest to him. It was some real novice shit, really. Even after everything that happened to Jason, Tim still hadn't gotten the hint that the danger wasn't only his own cross to bear. Bruce could take care of himself, and Tim knew that he could do the same... but there were always going to be innocent people lost in the crossfire.

He lost his parents first. They were murdered by some sick twist who figured out who Tim really was. His parents had left for a vacation in Cabo that summer, but they came back in body bags that Tim had to identify at the morgue. He was sixteen. And it didn't end there. His parents were only the beginning. Over the next three years, he lost friends. Some were fellow roof toppers like himself, some were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Yeah, maybe a long time ago, Tim had wanted to be a vigilante. But that hero business? It left a real bad taste in his mouth.

Stephanie, his partner in crime-fighting and teenage love, and him drifted apart. Tim became distant, unapproachable. And Bruce, who'd adopted him after his parents were killed, wasn't exactly the emotionally available mentor to look to in that regard. So when nineteen rolled around, Tim packed up his Specter gear, and he dipped out of Jersey altogether. The city would do fine with Bruce and Steph and some of the others looking after things, but Tim just couldn't take the bad memories or the losses anymore. He took off to France. He kept his head down and used his inheritance to go to university in Europe.

For awhile he was content. He'd built a little life for himself in Paris. But he still kept tabs on what was going on back home. When he heard that Bruce died? The guilt of Tim's having ever left was overwhelming. He immediately returned to the States, but everyone seemed to have gone to the winds. He couldn't even find Stephanie at first. So Tim settled down in Atlanta for the time being, he got a job with the police department doing computer forensics. But he never gave up looking for those that he'd grown to think of as family. He tracked Stephanie, found out she'd gotten married, and decided to stay away from whatever new life she was building for herself. Tim even found out that Bruce wasn't really dead at all, but relocated to a small town called Repose.

And if you asked him now, he couldn't say why he did it, but Tim put in his transfer paperwork for the Capital immediately. Maybe it was time for a family reunion.

Town Connections;
A/S/L?: Somebody that Tim has been talking to online for a long time.
The undead bestie: An old friend that died, or Tim just thought died while he was growing up in Jersey.
Atlanta or Paris: He lived in both for a few years, connects of all kinds.
